Abstract

Introduction. Obesity is a systemic disease with excessive accumulation of adipose tissue (BMI>30). With obesity, lipotoxic damage of internal organs, including the myocardium, develops over time, which is characterized by the development of diffuse interstitial and perivascular fibrosis, which leads to disturbances in diastolic and systolic function and is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases, such as arterial hypertension, myocardial infarction, heart rhythm disturbances. With extreme obesity (BMI>40), the risk of myocardial damage significantly increases, and its morphological and functional changes can be independent prognostic factors for the severity of the disease and the development of adverse cardiac events.
