Abstract

Introduction. The formation of the ophthalmological service in Kyrgyzstan as an independent structure traces its origin back to 1926, when the first ophthalmologist’s office for outpatient visits was opened in the city of Frunze. And just a year later, a mixed department with 20 beds was opened in the military hospital for the treatment of eye and ENT pathologies, which by 1935 was transformed into an independent eye department at the city hospital with 25 beds. At the same time, in order to train the republic’s own specialists, in 1941, on the basis of the Kyrgyz State Medical Institute (KSMI), the Department of Eye Diseases was formed.
