Abstract

Introduction. The medical and social significance of glaucoma is determined by  its high prevalence and dominance among the causes of irreversible blindness in many  countries of the world. According to UN forecasts, the number of glaucoma patients in  the world will reach 210 million by 2030. The high prevalence of age-related macular  degeneration, cataracts and glaucoma leads to an increase in the number of  inhabitants of the planet with complete or partial loss of vision, which significantly  disrupts their social functioning, and requires significant financial costs for treatment  and ensuring an acceptable level and quality of life. Therefore, early diagnosis and  timely treatment of glaucoma will reduce morbidity and cases of blindness.

The purpose of this article is to study the regional and age-related features of  glaucoma in patients of the Department of Eye Microsurgery No. 2 of the National  Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic.
